ARTICLE Haram, Harmless, Confirming Islam? Teaching and Learning about New Religious Movements at a Moroccan University Stefano Bigliardi, Jalal Benyougil, Maha Berrami, Kacem Chawqi, and Aya Touile Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco University Abstract This article crystallizes and scrutinizes the experience of an undergraduate, generaleducation class on New Religious Movements imparted at Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, a Moroccan, English speaking Liberal-Arts university. The study was conducted by a team including the course instructor and four students who, in addition to taking the course, engaged in analytical observation of the class with a focus on their peers’ reactions and participation.
